UvA Student Funds
UvA has several emergency and support funds for students facing unexpected financial difficulty. These are not widely advertised, but they exist. Your student advisor knows about them. Amounts vary depending on your circumstances and which fund you qualify for.
How to apply
Book an appointment with a UvA student advisor
Student advisors are your starting point for all UvA funds. They assess your situation, tell you which funds you can apply to, and often write a supporting letter. This step is mandatory for most funds.

The Profileringsfonds is a DUO-funded safety net for students who can't complete their studies within the normal timeframe due to circumstances beyond their control (illness, disability, board year, etc.). Ask your advisor if you qualify.

For immediate financial crises, UvA has a small emergency fund. Your advisor can assess whether you qualify and submit on your behalf. Decisions are usually made within 2 weeks.
Prepare your documentation
Most UvA funds require proof of enrolment, a statement of the problem you're facing, bank statements, and any relevant supporting documents (medical certificates, employer letters, etc.).
Common mistakes to avoid
Not knowing these funds exist: they are not widely advertised, but your student advisor knows about all of them
Waiting too long to apply: emergency funds are designed for current crises, not past ones
Not contacting a student advisor first: their involvement is required for most funds
Tips for students

Be honest and detailed about your situation: the more context you give, the better they can match you to the right fund
